For those looking to give their skin a gentle yet effective peel, this herbal peel recipe uses the natural exfoliating properties of strawberries or lemon. Both fruits are rich in natural enzymes and acids that help dissolve dead skin cells and brighten the complexion.
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe strawberry or 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for hydration)
How to Make It:
- Prepare the Strawberry:
- If using a strawberry, mash it well with a fork to create a paste. If using lemon juice, simply squeeze it fresh.

- Mix the Ingredients:
- In a small bowl, combine the mashed strawberry or lemon juice with honey (if using).
- Stir well to create a smooth consistency.
- Apply the Peel:
- Using your fingers or a brush, apply the mixture evenly to your face, avoiding the sensitive eye area.
- Let the peel sit on your skin for about 5-10 minutes. You may feel a slight tingling sensation as the fruit acids go to work.
- Rinse Off:
- Gently rinse the peel off with lukewarm water.
- Follow with a soothing toner and your favorite moisturizer.
The vitamin C and natural acids from the strawberry or lemon will brighten your skin, while the honey ensures it stays hydrated. This peel will leave you with a fresh, glowing complexion!
PS I will often rub the a strawberry slice directly on my face for a gentle peeling effect, and have even used a small wedge of lemon directly on the face for the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) benefits, although it can be too harsh for sensitive skin (if you feel extreme stinging pain, wash off immediately, although a little stinging is normal and will go away quickly in most cases).
