Day 125/365 – On ‘you are a badass’

5/5/17

Yesterday I mentioned the Ultimate Health Podcast I’ve recently began listening to, hosted by Dr. Jesse Chappus and Marni Wasserman. They share tips on how to become healthier, detox your home and the environment, and cover loads of interesting topics with the help of guest interviewees, who are experts in specific fields.

I just heard the interview with Jen Sincero, author of You are a Badass at Making Money. She was a real treat, and an inspiration to anyone on their way to becoming an entrepreneur. She shares her own biography and path to ‘success’ and eventually huge financial gains. She stresses that we must first have goals and reasons behind the goals, and become very clear on that. If part of your goals involves having money, there is no shame in that: just specify the exact figure needed for your exact goals (pay off debt, buy a house, etc.). The reasons will serve as motivation, and the figure will serve as the goalmark. When it comes time to act on the goal, if you don’t have a clear plan, you must ask for help or guidance from an expert. Oftentimes, the best thing to do is invest in a health/life/career coach or someone who is an expert in that thing you are trying to achieve – like a role model that you admire. For Jen, a life coach herself, having a career coach made her get her actions in gear, and set the wheels spinning. She knew she was now accountable to someone, and has invested significant money that she didn’t have into this endevour. On one hand, this lit a fire under her and got her moving, and on the other hand – the investment was into herself so she had everything to gain! When she became clear on her intent and put the work in, results blew her away and opportunities came knocking.

I was deeply impressed and am interested in reading the entire book for myself. I love learning by way of example, especially a real life example and a contemporary. I couldn’t wait to share what I already learned with anyone who has weird or mixed feelings about money, or who thinks money is downright evil. We must realize that money is part of the way of our world, and that it can be used for both good and evil, depending on whose hands they are in. If your intentions to use the money are for good, especially if they serve more than just your own gains, then why not pursue it as a goal? The difficulty is to know how to draw money in, and that’s where Jen’s advice comes in. Ask and you shall receive. What’s the step in the middle of those two events? Focused intention, and optimally directed work. Nothing can happen without putting the work in, but we need to work smarter, not harder.
