by Yasmin Sharifi

This simple yet soothing drink has been passed down in Yasmin’s family for generations. What she once enjoyed as a child, she now lovingly prepares for her own daughter. More than just a recipe, it’s a reminder of how food and tradition can nurture both body and soul.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon khakshir (flixweed, Descurainia sophia) seeds

  • 1 teaspoon sugar (or natural sweetener of choice)

  • 2 drops fresh lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Place khakshir seeds in a bowl of water.

  2. Wash thoroughly by pouring seeds and water back and forth between two bowls until clear and free of impurities.

  3. Add sugar and lemon juice.

  4. Stir well and enjoy chilled.

Benefits: Traditionally used to ease bloating, support digestion, and cool the body during fever. Gentle enough for children over age 2.
